Audience
The course is aimed at protection officers, chief protection officers, health and safety coordinators and others who participate in the systematic health, environmental and safety work of the company. It is suitable for both new and experienced protection officers in the private and public sectors, and meets the requirement for 40-hour training under Section 6-5 of the Working Environment Act and related regulations. The course is also suitable for managers and AMU members who want a deeper understanding of the role of the protection ombudsman and its practical application in business.

Learning objectives
The course provides a comprehensive and practice-oriented specialization in the role, rights and responsibilities of the protection ombudsman under the Working Environment Act. Participants learn to identify and manage risk factors, understand legal and regulatory requirements, and work effectively with their employer, AMU, occupational health service (BHT) and other employees. The course combines theory, case assignments, reflection and practical examples to strengthen competence in preventive HSE work and improvement processes.

After completing the course you will be able to

  • Understand the purpose, development and place of the Health Protection Ombudsman in the HSE system
  • Explain the legislation, in particular Chapter 6 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and relevant regulations
  • Perform systematic HSE work with risk assessment, measures and documentation
  • Know the roles and interactions between employer, workers, BHT and AMU
  • Identify and manage physical, psychosocial and organisational work environment challenges
  • Use tools for anomaly management, alerting, preparedness and continuous improvement
  • Contribute to health-promoting work environment, inclusion and good cooperation
  • Reflect on your own practice and further develop the role of a protection officer in line with the law and best practice

Important to note

This course covers the theoretical and reflection-based part of 40 hours of training for protection officers. The course does not replace the responsibility of the company to adapt the training to its own working conditions, risk conditions and routines. In order for the training to be complete, the company must also facilitate practical experience in the role of the safety ombudsman, participation in real health and safety processes, meetings and safety rounds, as well as provide access to relevant management systems, documentation and support from management and occupational health services. It is also the employer's responsibility to ensure that the protection officer receives the necessary time, resources and follow-up to be able to exercise the role in practice.
