Audience
The course is aimed at farmers and managers in Norwegian agriculture who will understand and use KSL as a practical tool in everyday life. It is suitable for both new and experienced manufacturers, as well as employees and associates involved in operations, HSE and documentation. The course is also relevant for advisors who assist farms with quality, traceability, risk assessment and improvement work.

Learning objectives
Participants will be given a practical introduction to KSL as a quality system in agriculture, including the purpose, history and context of food safety and labelling schemes. They will learn how the KSL standard is built up, how self-auditing is carried out and documented, and how a digital solution provides better overview and follow-up. The course provides insight into HSE requirements, risk assessment, accident registration and contingency plans, as well as how documentation and traceability provide confidence and market access. Participants will also learn a structured approach to implementation and continuous improvement in their own operations.

After completing the course you will be able to

  • Explain what KSL is, who is behind it, and why the system is important in Norwegian agriculture.
  • Describe how KSL has evolved and why digital self-auditing provides better overview and follow-up.
  • Identify which main themes of the KSL standard are most relevant to your production.
  • Carry out and document self-audits, including registration of deviations and follow-up with measures and deadlines.
  • Understand roles and responsibilities in KSL work on the farm, and involve employees in audit and improvement work.
  • Apply KSL principles for HSE, risk assessment, accident registration and emergency planning in practice.
  • Explain what quality, traceability and documentation mean, and provide examples of good documentation in operation.
  • Plan KSL implementation with mapping, action plan, implementation, evaluation and alignment.
  • Work systematically on continuous improvement by setting goals, measuring progress, and learning from deviations and revisions.
  • Understand why KSL provides confidence and can strengthen market access through proven compliance.

Important to note

This e-learning course provides an introduction to principles, concepts and working methods related to KSL, self-auditing, HSE, documentation and improvement work. The course does not replace the concrete implementation of the KSL work in your business.

In order for the training to be complete, the enterprise or participant must carry out self-audit in the KSL system for their own production and ensure that all relevant questions are answered correctly for the farm's operation. This involves, among other things:

  • Establish and maintain own routines, checklists, logbooks and journals that are actually used on a day-to-day basis, and ensure that documentation is up-to-date and easily accessible by supervision.
  • Carry out on-site risk assessments, facilitate the workplace, provide necessary practical training in the use of machinery, equipment and chemicals, and follow up on concrete measures that reduce risks.
  • Ensure contingency plan and alert routines are adapted to local conditions, are regularly updated and are known to all who work on the farm.
  • Comply with applicable laws and industry requirements applicable to your own production, and use relevant supervisors and advice if necessary for interpretation and detail requirements.
